Free Password Generator

Weak, reused passwords are behind most account takeovers. NToolHub's free Password Generator creates long, unpredictable passwords using your device's built-in cryptographic random number generator — the same kind of randomness operating systems use for encryption keys. Choose the length, mix uppercase, lowercase, digits and symbols, and watch the entropy and estimated crack time update live. It's built for anyone setting up a new account, rotating old credentials, or stocking a password manager with secrets no human could guess.

Private by design. This tool runs 100% in your browser — generated passwords are never uploaded, stored, or transmitted anywhere.

How to Use the Password Generator

  1. Choose a length — 16+ characters is recommended for important accounts.
  2. Pick character sets and optional rules like excluding ambiguous characters.
  3. Click Generate password — a new secure password appears with a strength meter.
  4. Click Copy to copy it to your clipboard, then paste it into a password manager.

Features

Set any length from 4 to 128 characters; toggle uppercase, lowercase, digits and symbols independently; exclude ambiguous characters like 0/O and 1/l; optionally guarantee at least one character from each selected set; live entropy readout, strength meter and crack-time estimate; one-click copy to clipboard.

Benefits & Use Cases

Use it when creating accounts on new sites, replacing a password after a data breach, generating Wi-Fi or router passwords, or creating service accounts for side projects. Because every password is unique and random, one breached site can never compromise your others.

Tips

Aim for at least 16 characters for important accounts — length beats complexity. Store generated passwords in a reputable password manager instead of memorizing them. Never reuse a password across sites, and rotate credentials immediately if a service reports a breach.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are generated passwords safe to use?

Yes. Passwords are created with your device's cryptographic random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues), which is designed for security-sensitive use. They never leave your browser, and each one is statistically unique.

How long should my password be?

At least 12 characters for everyday accounts and 16 or more for email, banking, and anything holding sensitive data. Longer passwords increase cracking time exponentially.

What is the entropy value shown?

Entropy, measured in bits, estimates how unpredictable the password is. Around 80 bits or more is considered very strong — an attacker would need an infeasible number of guesses to crack it.

Why exclude ambiguous characters?

Characters like 0/O and 1/l/I look alike in many fonts. Excluding them avoids typos when you read or transcribe a password manually, for example from a printed backup.

Should I memorize these passwords?

No — that is what password managers are for. Let the manager remember long random passwords while you remember one strong master password.
