Free JWT Generator

Building a login flow and need a throwaway token? The JWT Generator builds unsigned test JWTs from editable header and payload JSON — perfect for local development, API testing, and demos. Every token is prominently labeled TEST-ONLY: with alg:none and an empty signature, these carry zero security and must never reach production.

TEST TOKENS ONLY. This tool creates unsigned JWTs (alg:none). They carry zero security and must never be used in production — anyone can forge them.
Private by design. This tool runs 100% in your browser — everything you type stays local and is never uploaded or stored anywhere.

How to Use the JWT Generator

  1. Edit the header and payload JSON to suit your test case.
  2. Click Generate test token.
  3. Copy the token and use it against your local dev server.
  4. Remember: these tokens are unsigned test fixtures only.

Features

Editable header and payload JSON; instant generation; JSON validation; copy button; prominent test-only labeling.

Benefits & Use Cases

Mock authenticated requests in Postman or curl, test frontend auth handling, demo token-based flows, or teach JWT structure hands-on.

Tips

Set realistic exp claims to test expiry handling in your app. For anything beyond local testing, issue properly signed tokens from your backend.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are these tokens unsigned?

This is a client-side test tool with no secrets to sign with. Unsigned tokens are fine for local development but cryptographically worthless — that is why they are labeled test-only.

Can I use these in production?

Absolutely not. Anyone can forge an unsigned token, so a production server accepting them would let anyone impersonate anyone.

How do I make a real signed JWT?

Sign it on your backend with a library like jsonwebtoken (Node), PyJWT (Python), or java-jwt, using a strong secret or RSA key — never in browser JavaScript.

The generator warns about my alg setting — why?

If you set alg to something like HS256, the tool reminds you it still cannot sign. The signature segment stays empty regardless of the header.
