Why are iPhone photos in HEIC format?
Apple uses HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) to save storage space — HEIC files are about 50% smaller than JPG with similar quality. However, many websites and apps don't support HEIC, so converting to JPG makes them universally compatible.
